Description: The Clinical Nursing Aid (CNA) with Senior Fitness course prepares students to become a CNA and begin their career path in Long Term Care or an Assisted Living facility. This course is designed to provide students with the complete healthcare knowledge base necessary to work in an entry level position in a facility. Students do not receive certification simply by taking this course: they must sit for their state’s certification exam. Each student must also complete the clinical hour requirements for his/her particular state, as well as obtain a criminal background check, CPR certification, TB testing, and other screenings as required by his/her state.

This course is designed to provide students with the complete healthcare knowledge base necessary to work in an entry level position in a facility. Students will gain an understanding of basic medical knowledge and will learn procedures and techniques for providing sensitive and appropriate medical/personal care to a wide range of patients.

Students will gain an understanding of the role of exercise in improving health, fitness, function and quality of life in older adults. The current recommendations for cardiovascular, flexibility, resistance, mobility and balance training will be discussed. An emphasis will be given to common health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis and frailty. Going beyond the basic exercise recommendations for this population, students will, by the end of this course, be able to design an appropriate fitness regimen taking into consideration critical information such as a client’s age, gender, health history, current health conditions and exercise history.

This course will provide the student with a solid foundation in the social and physiological aspects of aging. Topics covered include: theories of aging; physiological changes within cells, organs, and bodily systems; social implications of growing older; and common conditions and diseases associated with aging.

This program is not approved at the state level and students should check their home states requirements prior to enrolling.
