The1963 Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests in the Atmosphere, in Outer Space and Underwater led to a life changing reduction in worldwide atmospheric radioactive fallout from nuclear testing.
Mountain Home resident, retired Air Force Sergeant John Holmes, played a top secret detection role that ultimately empowered the US to negotiate this important Atmospheric Test Ban Treaty. Learn how Holmes and his associates set out to prove that the USSR was testing Nuclear weapons in the open atmosphere. How these young men developed methods of detection that had never been utilized before and developed data that aided U-2 Reconnaissance and ultimately led USSR Premier Khrushchev and President John Kennedy to negotiate a Treaty that has protected our world from dangerous radioactive fallout for 55 years. Holmes will also share personal insights about non-existent aircraft and his Area 51 in Nevada experience.
