Understanding the Music of Hamilton

ID : 49100
« back to classes page
The hit musical “Hamilton” has been hailed as the greatest musical ever written. Hamilton uses many popular musical styles that may not be familiar to you. Learn about these styles, where they come from, and how they have affected modern culture. Not only will this help you appreciate the musical, but it will help you understand the music of your grandkids!
Hamilton uses the entire American songbook in its toolbox. It’s been called the first hip-hop musical yet there is reggae, ballads, barbershop harmony, Irish lament and even gospel. This extraordinary range of American musical styles is a reflection of Hamilton‘s subordinate theme, which is as a love letter to America. Join retired Orchestra Conductor James Klein Ph.D., accompanied by his Sarah on the Cello,  who will lead you through understanding the music of Hamilton which shows America to be big, brawling, diverse, contentious, joyous, powerful and full of love much like our music.
