The Western Cattle Trail originated in Kerrville and originally terminated at the rail head in Dodge City, Kansas. Captain Chas. Schreiner and his partners, John Light and John Lytle, trailed approximately 500,000 Longhorn Cattle north. They were one of the major companies during the 12 years that the Western Trail was operating from 1874 to1886. However, this short span in time created the American Cowboy and stories of the West that would fascinate and romance the world for decades.
